Cylinder

Cylindruria (cylindruria; from Latin cylindrus - cylinder + Greek uron - urine) - the presence of cylinders in the urine. The cylinders are hollow tubular structures consisting of adherent renal tubular cells.

Cylindruria is a sign of pathological processes in the kidneys. The presence of hyaline, granular and waxy casts indicates inflammatory or dystrophic changes in the renal tubules. Red blood cell casts appear during bleeding in the urinary tract.

The diagnosis of cylindruria is made based on the results of a general urine test. To clarify the causes and severity of the disease, additional examination methods are needed - biochemical analysis of urine, ultrasound of the kidneys, etc. Treatment of cylindruria depends on the identified disease and is aimed at eliminating the causes that caused pathological changes in the kidneys.
