Dear readers, I present to your attention an article with the title:
Catatonic confusion (lat. s. conscientiae catatonica) is a mental state characterized by impaired orientation in time, space and one’s own personality.
This symptom occurs in catatonic schizophrenia. The patient cannot adequately assess what is happening around him, confuses the events of the past and present, and does not recognize close people. Thinking becomes fragmented, speech incoherent.
The confusion of catatonia can occur in attacks that last from a few minutes to several hours. At these moments, the patient’s behavior is extremely disorganized, he does not react to others and external stimuli.
This symptom requires emergency medical attention. Treatment includes the use of antipsychotics and tranquilizers. In the case of timely treatment, attacks of confusion are stopped, but it is not always possible to completely get rid of them.
