Cordaflex RD: description, indications for use, contraindications and side effects

Cordaflex RD is a drug from the group of calcium channel blockers of the dihydropyridine group, produced in Switzerland by Siegfried Ltd. and Egis AO. The active substance of the drug is nifedipine, which is contained in controlled-release film-coated tablets with a dosage of 40 mg.

Cordaflex RD is used for the treatment of arterial hypertension, including hypertensive crisis, prevention of angina attacks (including Prinzmetal's angina), hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, Raynaud's disease, pulmonary hypertension and broncho-obstructive syndrome.

However, the drug also has contraindications. Cordaflex RD is not recommended for hypersensitivity to nifedipine, acute myocardial infarction (within the first 8 days), cardiogenic shock, severe aortic stenosis, decompensated heart failure, severe arterial hypotension, tachycardia, pregnancy and breastfeeding. You should also refrain from using the drug in pediatric practice, since the safety and effectiveness of its use in children have not been determined.

Side effects are possible when using Cordaflex RD. From the cardiovascular system and blood, facial flushing with a feeling of heat, palpitations, tachycardia, hypotension (up to fainting), pain similar to angina pectoris, and also very rarely - anemia, leukopenia, thrombocytopenia and thrombocytopenic purpura can be observed. From the nervous system and sensory organs, dizziness, headache, dazedness, changes in visual perception and impaired sensitivity in the arms and legs may occur. From the gastrointestinal tract, constipation, nausea, diarrhea, gingival hyperplasia (with long-term treatment), and increased activity of liver transaminases are possible. Myalgia, tremor, swelling and redness of the arms and legs, photodermatitis, hyperglycemia, gynecomastia (in elderly patients), a burning sensation at the injection site (with IV administration) and allergic reactions such as itching, urticaria, exanthema and exfoliative dermatitis.

The dosage of Cordaflex RD should be individually selected by the doctor depending on the severity of the disease and the patient's response to treatment. The usual starting dose is 20 mg 2 times a day. If necessary, the dose can be gradually increased to 60 mg per day.

In general, Cordaflex RD is an effective and safe drug if the recommended doses and rules of administration are observed. However, before starting treatment, it is necessary to consult a doctor and follow his prescriptions and recommendations.
