Their genus includes more than 25 different types. The main one with different diagnostic significance is serotype A and its subtypes 1-28. For example, the disease is associated only with serotypes A1 2, AI3, A4 and A5.

Presumably, the sources of V. are patients with gastroenteritis caused by viral strains of non-coking EBV isolates.

The infection is transmitted through dishes, toys, contaminated water, as well as through direct contact with the patient. V. persist in the human body for a long time.
