Cusimolol: an antiglaucoma drug with many contraindications and side effects

Cusimolol is an antiglaucoma medication manufactured by Alcon-Cusi in Spain. The active ingredient of the drug is timolol. Cusimolol is available in the form of eye drops with a concentration of 0.25% and 0.5%. In the international medicinal reference book, timolol is known under various synonyms, such as Apo-Timol, Glaumol, Niolol, Timohexal and others.

Cusimolol is used to reduce intraocular pressure and treat various forms of glaucoma, including open-angle, secondary and aphakic glaucoma. In addition, the drug can be used in the treatment of other diseases such as hypertension, angina, migraine, essential tremor and anxiety. However, it is necessary to remember the many contraindications and side effects when using cusimolol.

Contraindications to the use of Cusimolol include hypersensitivity to timolol, bronchial asthma, chronic lung diseases, cardiogenic shock, acute and chronic heart failure, AV block II-III degree, sinoatrial block, sinus bradycardia and sick sinus syndrome. Side effects from the digestive system, such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation, abdominal pain and others, may also occur.

When using cusimolol, care must be taken when driving or operating machinery, as the drug may cause dizziness and other side effects that may reduce concentration and reaction.
