Maria Semyonovna Detinova is a Soviet scientist, parasitologist, researcher of helminths and alveococci - parasites of humans and animals. Born on May 18, 1952 in the village of Ponizovye, Penza region of the USSR. In 1975 she graduated from the Faculty of Biology of Penza State University. After this, she began working at the Academy of Medical Sciences. Since 1990, she has been researching alveococci, severe parasites that can cause echinococcosis and alveoccosis. She found that one of the causative agents of epilepsy is cerebral alveolar echinococcus, which was a previously unknown disease.
