Diaphenylsulfone

Diaphenylsulfone belongs to the group of anti-leprosy drugs.

The international name of the drug is Dapsone.

Diaphenylsulfone is a synthetic sulfonamide agent that has a bacteriostatic effect against Mycobacterium leprosy.

The mechanism of action of diaphenylsulfone is based on competitive inhibition of dihydropteroate synthetase, an enzyme involved in the synthesis of folic acid in mycobacteria. As a result, the synthesis of purines and pyrimidines necessary for the growth and reproduction of the pathogen is blocked.

Diaphenylsulfone is used to treat all forms of leprosy, including lepromatous, tuberculoid and unspecified. Prescribed orally in tablet form.

Diaphenylsulfone has significant side effects, including hemolytic anemia, agranulocytosis, and hepatotoxicity. Regular blood monitoring is required during treatment.
