Diprolene: description of the drug, indications and contraindications

Diprolene is a drug with glucocorticosteroid activity produced in Belgium by the company Schering-Plough. The active substance is betamethasone. The drug is available in cream and ointment dosage forms.

Indications for the use of Diprolene include congenital adrenal hypoplasia, adrenal insufficiency, thyroiditis, thyrotoxic crisis, hypercalcemia due to malignant neoplasms, acute rheumatic carditis, rheumatoid arthritis in the acute phase, systemic lupus erythematosus, scleroderma and other systemic connective tissue diseases, inflammatory lesions of the joints and soft tissues, nephrotic syndrome, prevention of transplant rejection, severe allergic reactions, bronchial asthma, sarcoidosis, berylliosis, Loeffler's syndrome, aspiration pneumonitis, cerebral edema, neurodermatitis, eczema, diaper rash, dermatitis, psoriasis, baldness, colloidal scars, itching, nodular Hyde's pruritus, erythema multiforme, mycosis fungoides, erythroderma, pemphigus and other skin diseases, ulcerative colitis, Crohn's disease, recurrent aphthous stomatitis, anemia, idiopathic and secondary thrombocytopenia in adults, acute leukemia in children, lymphomas, breast and prostate cancer, allergic conjunctivitis and corneal ulcers, iritis, iridocyclitis, keratitis, chorioretinitis, diffuse choroiditis, retrobulbar neuritis, prevention of distress syndrome in newborns, croup in diphtheria, tuberculous meningitis, tetanus (in combination with antimicrobial agents).

Despite its wide range of uses, Diprolene has a number of contraindications. For example, the drug should not be used for hypersensitivity, systemic mycoses, HIV infection, active forms of tuberculosis, chickenpox, herpes simplex (including the eyes and oral cavity) and other viral diseases, vaccination period, gastric and duodenal ulcers (in the acute phase), peptic ulcers of the gastrointestinal tract (including a history), purulent skin lesions, glaucoma, acute mental disorders, pregnancy and lactation.

Before using Diprolene, you should consult your doctor and read the instructions for use of the drug. It should be remembered that long-term use of glucocorticosteroids can cause various side effects, such as suppression of adrenal function, osteoporosis, hypertension, hyperglycemia, growth impairment in children, as well as an increased risk of developing infectious diseases. Therefore, when using Diprolene, it is necessary to observe the dosage and duration of treatment, as well as regularly monitor the patient’s condition and conduct the necessary studies.
