Dirofilaria

Single-celled nematodes of the roundworm family that feed on the blood of vertebrates and cause diseases in them - dirofilariasis. The most commonly observed dirofilariasis is dogs, which can be parasitized by ten species of dirofilaria, the largest of which are observed in dogs - Dirofilaria immitis and D. repens. In mosquitoes of the genus Anopheles, the causative agents of dirofilaria are Dirofilaria immitis, which is widespread everywhere, with the exception of areas with cold climates, and Dirofilariosis tritici, found in southern Europe.
