A metaepiphyseal fracture is the most common type of bone fracture in the growth plate in children. In the vast majority of cases, it manifests itself in the form of a compression fracture of the distal metaepiphysis of the femur in patients from 6 to 9 years old, less often in the area of the distal third of the radius. Most often, the metaphysis of one limb is damaged in the same patient, but every 7–10th victim has bilateral fractures. Damage primarily occurs after a direct mechanical injury such as a jump, during stretching, flexion, or hyperextension.
