Diseases of the liver and biliary tract
The liver is a vital organ with many functions. It neutralizes toxins, synthesizes proteins and other substances, regulates metabolism, produces bile and much more.
The liver can be affected by various diseases, the most common of which are:
-
Fatty liver is the accumulation of fat in liver cells, often due to obesity or poor diet.
-
Hepatitis is an inflammatory liver disease caused by viruses, toxins, and autoimmune reactions.
-
Liver cirrhosis is the replacement of liver tissue with connective tissue with impaired function.
-
Gallstone disease is the formation of stones in the gallbladder or ducts.
Symptoms of liver disease are often nonspecific - weakness, fatigue, nausea, pain in the right hypochondrium. A characteristic symptom is jaundice - yellowing of the skin and sclera of the eyes.
Diagnostics includes blood tests, ultrasound, CT, MRI of the liver, and biopsy. Treatment depends on the specific disease. Diet, giving up bad habits, and taking hepatoprotectors are important. If necessary, surgical interventions are performed. Timely detection and treatment of liver diseases is extremely important to preserve liver function.
