DNS Continus: application, indications, contraindications and side effects

DNS Continus is a narcotic antitussive drug produced by Mundipharma GmbH in Austria. The active ingredient is dihydrocodeine. The dosage form of DNS Continus is 60 mg, 90 mg and 120 mg tablets. DNS Continus is used for the treatment of moderate and severe pain in rheumatic diseases, herpetic lesions, bone fractures, injuries, burns, stage II malignant tumors; pre- and postoperative pain.

Contraindications for the use of DNS Continus include bronchospasm, bronchial asthma, pregnancy, breastfeeding (stop during treatment) and age under 12 years. In patients taking MAO inhibitors, as well as with increased intracranial pressure, head trauma, the elderly, patients with hepatic-renal insufficiency and hypothyroidism, it is necessary to take DNS Continus with caution. During treatment, it is necessary to avoid drinking alcohol, driving a car, and doing work that requires high concentration.

Side effects from using DNS Continus may include constipation, nausea, vomiting, decreased appetite, headache, dizziness, decreased concentration and urinary retention. Overdose may cause serious symptoms such as bradycardia, hypotension, hypothermia, restlessness, dry mouth, miosis, muscle rigidity, convulsions, hallucinations, respiratory arrest and coma. Treatment of an overdose of DNS Continus includes gastric lavage and intravenous administration of 0.4 mg naloxone (antagonist).

In general, DNS Continus is an effective antitussive and analgesic agent in the treatment of pain syndromes, but its use must be carefully monitored and with caution in accordance with the instructions for use.
