Indications for use: Infections caused by Haemophilus influenzae, intracellular pathogenic microorganisms (chlamydia, mycoplasma), rickettsia, borrelia (drug of choice); infectious diseases: Q fever, spotted fever of the rocky mountains, typhus, borreliosis, brucellosis, yersiniosis, bacillary and amoebic dysentery, tularemia, cholera, Lyme disease (stage I), actinomycosis, malaria, leptospirosis, trachoma, psittacosis, granulocytic ehrlichiosis, etc. ; diseases of the ENT organs and lower respiratory tract (sinusitis, otitis media, tonsillitis, acute bronchitis, exacerbations of chronic bronchitis, pneumonia, pleurisy), cholecystitis, cholangitis, peritonitis, proctitis, periodontitis, urinary tract infections, urogenital mycoplasmosis, pelvic inflammatory diseases in the acute stage in women (endometritis), acute prostatitis, epididymitis, gonorrhea, syphilis, purulent infections of the skin and soft tissues, acne, infectious ulcerative keratitis. Prevention of surgical infections after medical abortions, colon surgeries, prevention of malaria caused by Plasmodium falciparum during short-term travel (less than 4 months) to areas where Plasmodium resistance to chloroquine and/or pyrimethamine-sulfadoxine has been noted.

Contraindications: Hypersensitivity, porphyria, severe liver failure, leukopenia, pregnancy (second half), breastfeeding (you should refrain from breastfeeding during the treatment period), age up to 9 years (the period of dental development).

Side effects: Dizziness, sweating, vascular collapse, benign intracranial hypertension in adults and protrusion of fontanelles in children, nausea, vomiting, anorexia, abdominalgia, diarrhea, constipation, dysphagia, glossitis, esophagitis, dysbacteriosis, fungal infections, reinfections with resistant strains, eosinophilia, neutropenia, photosensitivity, persistent discoloration of tooth enamel, allergic reactions (rash, skin itching, Quincke's edema).

Interaction: Absorption is reduced by simultaneous intake of iron preparations, sodium bicarbonate, aluminum, calcium or magnesium antacids, magnesium-containing laxatives, cholestyramine and colestipol. Barbiturates, carbamazepine, phenytoin, rifampicin reduce plasma concentrations and shorten the half-life (induction of monooxygenases and acceleration of biotransformation), which can lead to a decrease in the antimicrobial effect. Reduces the bactericidal effect of penicillins. Regular alcohol consumption increases T1/2. Reduces the reliability of contraception and increases the frequency of breakthrough bleeding against the background of estrogen-containing oral contraceptives. Potentiates the effect of indirect anticoagulants.

Special instructions: Treatment of infections caused by strepto- and staphylococci, Escherichia, Shigella, Akinetobacter is possible only after determining the sensitivity of microorganisms to doxycycline. To prevent ulceration of the esophagus, it should be taken with plenty of liquid. During treatment and for 4-5 days after it, direct exposure to sunlight or UV rays (photosensitization) is contraindicated. With long-term use, the cellular composition of the peripheral blood should be regularly monitored.
