Doxolem: description, application and side effects

Doxolem (international name - doxorubicin) is an antitumor antibiotic produced by the Mexican pharmaceutical company Lemery. This drug is widely used to treat various types of cancer, including breast, lung, bladder, thyroid, ovarian, bone and soft tissue tumors.

Doxolem is a lyophilized powder for the preparation of an injection solution. It contains the active substance - doxorubicin, which is an antitumor agent.

Indications for the use of Doxolem include acute lymphoblastic and myeloblastic leukemia, malignant Hodgkin and non-Hodgkin lymphoma, as well as various types of cancer.

Contraindications include hypersensitivity to hydroxybenzoates, severe suppression of bone marrow function due to other chemotherapy drugs or radiation therapy, previous treatment with anthracyclines in maximum total doses, leukopenia, thrombocytopenia, anemia, severe liver and kidney dysfunction, acute hepatitis, bilirubinemia, severe heart disease ( myocarditis, severe rhythm disturbances, acute phase of myocardial infarction), gastric and duodenal ulcers, bleeding, tuberculosis, cystitis (intravesical administration), pregnancy and breastfeeding.

Restrictions on the use of Doxolem include age under 2 years and after 70 years (possible increase in the frequency of cardiotoxic effects), organic heart damage (risk of developing cardiotoxic effects at low doses).

Side effects from Doxolem can be serious. These may include congestive heart failure, acute atrial and ventricular arrhythmia, thrombocytopenia, leukopenia, phlebosclerosis, flushing of the face and hyperemia along the vein, nausea, vomiting, stomatitis or esophagitis.
