Common names: dragon's blood palm, rattan resinous tree. Pharmacy name: resin obtained from fruits - Draconis resina (formerly: Resina Draconis).
Botanical description. This palm with large, stiff leaves is native to tropical areas of Africa, Asia and Australia.
Active ingredients. The red resin consists of a mixture of various esters of benzoic and benzoacetic acids.
Application. Previously, dragon tree resin was used as a remedy for diarrhea and in the manufacture of medicines for inflammation of the oral mucosa. Nowadays it is sometimes used as a coloring agent for tooth powders and toothpastes.
