A y-drain (also called a kera drain) is a special tube used after surgery to drain fluid and secretions from a wound.
The Y-shaped drain is so named because of its shape - it has one central trunk that bifurcates into two tubes. One tube is inserted into the wound, and the second is brought out and connected to the drainage system.
The Y-shaped design allows you to effectively drain fluid from two wound sites simultaneously using one tube. This is especially convenient for operations in the abdominal area, when outflow from the abdominal cavity is necessary.
The drainage is made of soft silicone, which does not injure tissue. A Y-drain is usually placed for 2-5 days after surgery until the main drainage is complete. The drainage is then removed. This type of drainage is widely used in abdominal surgery.
