Drepanocytosis

Drepanocytosis is a rare hereditary disease that manifests itself in changes in the shape and size of red blood cells. It is characterized by the presence of abnormal red blood cells in the blood that are of irregular shape and size.

Drepanocytes have the shape of a meniscus or crescent, which leads to their increased tendency to aggregation and formation of blood clots. This can lead to various complications such as heart failure, stroke, thrombosis and others.

The cause of drepanocytosis is unknown, but it is thought to be related to genetic mutations. Treatment consists of taking medications that improve the shape of red blood cells and reduce the tendency to aggregation.

However, although drepanocytosis is a rare disease, it can have serious consequences for a person's health. Therefore, if you suspect drepanocytosis, you should consult a doctor for diagnosis and treatment.
