Driptan: an effective medicine for urological diseases

Driptan is a drug developed to treat urological diseases such as neurogenic bladder and idiopathic bladder instability. The drug contains the active substance Oxybutynin, which helps reduce bladder contractions and reduce the frequency of urination.

Driptan is produced in France by Laboratoire Fournier and belongs to the group of antispasmodics of different chemical groups. The drug is available in the form of 5 mg tablets.

Indications for the use of Driptan include neurogenic bladder, idiopathic bladder instability, hyperreflexia and detrusor dysfunction, nocturnal enuresis and neurogenic bladder dysfunction in children over 5 years of age.

Despite the effectiveness of the drug, it has contraindications for use. Driptan is not recommended for use in case of hypersensitivity to Oxybutynin, glaucoma, obstructive gastrointestinal disorders, paralytic ileus, dilatation of the colon, severe colitis, myasthenia gravis, uropathy of obstructive etiology, intestinal atony in elderly and debilitated patients, acute bleeding with instability of parameters of the cardiovascular system, pregnancy , breastfeeding and children under 5 years of age.

When using Driptan, side effects may occur, such as dry mouth, nausea, vomiting, constipation, flatulence, decreased gastric and intestinal motility, urinary disorders, palpitations, tachycardia, vasodilation, weakness, dizziness, drowsiness or insomnia, anxiety, hallucinations, decreased tear production, mydriasis, increased intraocular pressure, paralysis of accommodation, visual impairment, decreased sweating, impotence, suppressed lactation and allergic reactions.

The interaction of Driptan with other drugs should also be taken into account. Alcohol and other sedatives may increase dizziness and drowsiness.

In case of an overdose of Driptan, serious symptoms may occur, such as central nervous system stimulation, facial flushing, fever, nausea, vomiting, tachycardia, hypo- or hypertension, respiratory failure, bladder overactivity, agitation, restlessness, hallucinations, convulsions, coma and shock. In case of overdose, seek immediate medical attention.
