Echokinesia" is a synonym for hyperkinesia, spreading the arms (the whole body) to the sides, as if producing some movement, although in fact nothing was done. From Greek ακο - sound and κινεσθά - to move (otherwise, a convulsion, similar to a flinch at an unexpected sharp sound). Among writers (mostly foreign) it occurs in relation to the same clearly unnatural body movements such as shrugging shoulders, nervous exercises of the arms, etc. In gig. and sexologists the term coitusokinesis is encountered. E. is a fiction of “subconscious movements”, a painful process of discharge in the muscle according to the type of athetosis. Synonym: tetrobus or athetonos. See also: Hyperkinesia.
