Ekalin

Ekalin is an antifungal agent for the local treatment of various types of skin and genital infections caused by fungi. It is produced in Russia by Akrikhin KhFK together with the Macedonian enterprise Yaka 80. The international name is Econazole. Indications for use are dermatomycosis of the skin, feet, rubromycosis, candidiasis of the skin and toenails.

In gynecological practice, ekalin is used in the treatment of vulvo-vaginal candidiasis, colpitis, fungal balanitis and vulvitis in the patient’s sexual partner. At the same time, vaginal suppository forms (150 mg) and an aerosol preparation (1%) are intended for direct administration into the vagina, and creams (1%) as well as powder (10 g) can be used externally for skin lesions. Before applying the preparations, it is recommended to check individual susceptibility to the components of ekalin.

An obstacle to the use of ekalin may be individual intolerance to the components of the drug, which manifests itself during its initial use. The use of ekalin during pregnancy is allowed only if the effect of use outweighs the risks for the unborn child; during lactation, therapy is possible after stopping breastfeeding. Taking Ekalin orally is contraindicated. Side effects from the use of ekalin are rarely felt and are expressed by local reactions: burning sensation, itching and redness. Long-term use of cream and powder can provoke the development of systemic side effects, such as pigmentation disorders and tissue atrophy
