Enterobius Vermicularis

Enterobius vermeulariis is a small roundworm that parasitizes the human intestine and causes enterobiasis. It is one of the most common fecal-borne diseases and can affect children and adults of any age.

Enterobius vermicularis is about 1 mm long and only 20-30 µm wide. It consists of a white substance covered with a thin layer of transparent chitin. Pinworms move through the human intestines, feeding on food and absorbing liquids that they consume as they move. This parasitic organism causes itching in the anal area, as its movement causes damage to the intestinal walls. Often when infected, abdominal pain is observed, as well as nausea, vomiting and diarrhea.
