Exhumation

Exhumation, or exhumation, is the removal of the body of a deceased person from the ground after burial, for the purpose of investigative actions, or for medical purposes.

Exhumation is carried out in cases where:

– it is necessary to carry out investigative actions;
– the body of the deceased cannot be buried (due to his condition or due to religious reasons);
– it is necessary to carry out reburial;
– a pathological-anatomical study is required.

The exhumation process includes:

– grave excavation;
– removal of the body;
– photographing and fingerprinting;
– performing a pathological autopsy;
– preparing the body for burial.

During the exhumation process, various facts related to the circumstances of death and the reasons for burial may be discovered. This may help the investigation or identify the deceased.
