Subpubic fascia

The fascia is a continuation of the deep fascial layer (a continuation on each side of the perineum), and together with the deep fascia (the superficial layers form the sheath of the Hessian muscle). Under the pubic ligament it is presented in the form of layers of fascia of the short pubic ligament (fascia rectalis). It runs along the anterior surface of the rectum, is woven into the tissue of the transverse fascia of the buttock and into the tendon of the obturator internus muscle. It contains the anterior branches of the lateral fissure of the sacral plexus.
