Theca cell fibroma xanthomatosa is a type of benign tumor that arises from the cells lining the tendons (called theca cells).
A distinctive feature of this type of fibroma is the accumulation of fatty inclusions inside the tumor cells, which gives it a characteristic yellowish tint. Therefore, such tumors are also called xanthomatous (from the Greek “xanthos” - yellow).
Theca cell xanthomatous fibromas are most often localized on the hands and feet, less often - on other areas of the skin and mucous membranes. They have a dense consistency, slow growth and usually do not cause concern unless they become large.
Treatment consists of surgical excision of the tumor. The prognosis is generally favorable, relapses after removal are rare.
