First aid for cardiac arrest: performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation on a child
You found a child lying motionless on the ground. First, be sure that the scene is safe. Determine the presence of consciousness in a child • Ask loudly: “Do you need help? » • Clap your hands. • If the child does not respond, squeeze the trapezius muscle. If the child is unconscious: • Gently turn the child onto his or her back (only if necessary). Open the airway and check for breathing • Tilt your baby's head back and lift his chin. • To detect breathing, use visual, auditory and tactile control for 5 seconds. If the child is not breathing: Take 2 full mouth-to-mouth breaths •Pinch your baby's nostrils and cover them tightly lips her mouth. • Give 2 full insufflations within 1.5-2 seconds. • Watch your chest rise to make sure air flows through lungs. Check for a pulse • Check the carotid pulse for 10 seconds. If the child does not have a pulse: Call an ambulance • Send someone to call an ambulance. Find the right hand position • Use your fingers to feel the indentation on the lower edge of the sternum. • Place the heel of the palm of your other hand on sternum above the place where they are fingers. • Use only one hand to performing thrusts on the sternum. • Avoid touching your chest with your fingers. Do 5 sternum thrusts • When performing pushes, the rescuer's shoulders should be above his hands. • Pushes on the sternum are performed to a depth of up to 3 cm. • Approximately 5 pushes should be made in 3 seconds (about 100 pushes per minute). • Push slowly in a vertical line, keeping your hands on your chest at all times. • Maintain the airway with your other hand. Take 1 full breath • Gently tilt your baby's head back and lift his chin. • Pinch your baby's nostrils and place your lips tightly around his mouth. • Give 1 slow blow for 1.5-2 seconds. • Watch the chest rise to ensure air is moving into the lungs. Repeat cycles of chest thrusts and blowing • Do about 20 cycles for about 1 minute. • If the ambulance has not yet been called, call “03”. Recheck for pulse and breathing • Feel your pulse for 5 seconds. If the child's pulse is detected, but he is not breathing: • Perform artificial ventilation, until the ambulance arrives. If the child's pulse is not detectable and she's not breathing: • Continue CPR until the ambulance arrives. • Continue with cycles of 5 chest thrusts and one blow. • Check your pulse every few minutes.
