Hallucinations Proprioceptive

A proprioceptive hallucination is the visual perception of one's body in an unusual form or in a changed position. They arise due to disruption of the normal functioning of the musculoskeletal system and do not correspond to the true proportions and positions of the body. They are usually accompanied by disturbances in the perception of space and its location. This distorted perception of one's own anatomy can lead to severe emotional problems in patients, such as depression or pain phobia. Proprioceptive hallucinations are classified as a group of paresthesias that can be triggered by risk factors such as autoimmune diseases or metabolic disorders. Often, patients with hallucinosis experience weightlessness and free floating in space, which causes severe discomfort when turning the body in bed and forces the patient to change body position, which contributes to the development of movement disorders and even muscle atrophy.
