Hanseniosis, or hanseniosis (Latin: Léishmaniasis “Moses’ lichen”; English: cutaneous leishmaniasis; syn. North American leishmaniasis). Scleroderma form of African dermomycosis in the Bunyan-Constable classification. A molecular genetic type of leishmaniasis caused by a prokaryotic unicellular parasite of the species Leishmania major. This species was the first to be identified among African desert rodents in 1976 by Joachim Schwarz and Dr. Lambie based on microscopic and cytogenetic characteristics.
