Essence.
These are drupes in the form of small hazelnuts, covered with a thin black skin. If you squeeze them, they split into two parts and contain black and yellow seeds with a pleasant taste and fragrant smell. The leaves of the laurel are the same as those of the myrtle, but only larger, and its fruit is red. Laurel grows in mountainous areas, and its strength is concentrated in its fruits and leaves.

Nature.
The laurel drupes are the hottest, but the bark is the least hot; in general it is hot and dry to the second degree.

Actions and properties.

If you drink two dirhams of its bark, it crushes stones and kills the fruit with its bitterness, surpassing that of other medicines. At the same time, nine qirats are given to drink at one time. Its drupes also crush stones.

Fevers.
Its oil in the form of rubbing is useful for goose bumps.

Poisons.
Laurel with wine is given to drink against a scorpion sting, and it is good to apply it fresh as a medicinal bandage for hornet and bee stings. In general, laurel is an antidote to any drunk poison.

Substitutes.
Its replacement is thyme leaves; and instead of laurel leaves, its drupes serve.
