Genitourinary Area

The genitourinary area is the part of the body that is located between the pelvis and thighs. It includes the bladder, ureters, kidneys, urinary canal and genitals.

The bladder is a hollow organ that is used to store urine. It is located in the lower abdomen and is surrounded by muscles. The ureters are tubes that connect the bladder to the kidneys. The kidneys are paired organs that filter blood and produce urine. The urinary canal is the tube that connects the bladder and the urethra (urethra).

The reproductive organs include the ovaries, testicles, uterus, fallopian tubes and vagina. The ovaries are the female reproductive glands that produce eggs. The testicles are the male reproductive glands that produce sperm. The uterus is a muscular organ that serves to bear a child. The fallopian tubes are the tubes that carry eggs to the uterus. The vagina is the tube through which sperm travels to the uterus.

The genitourinary area also contains lymph nodes that protect the body from infections.
