Guy Herter-Heibner disease is a rare neuromuscular disease named after the doctor, professor of medicine Joseph Schifflinger. The name came from a combination of the names of three doctors, including the American physician Charles Herter. His father was a German who moved to the United States and practiced forensic medicine. It is believed that among his patients was the teenager Joseph Ludwig Geubner, the eldest son of the famous pediatrician Otto Geubner from Austria. It is characterized by progressive bilateral brachial plexus palsy (BPP), resulting in muscle weakness, difficulty coordinating movements, and absence of voluntary muscles in the lower body as muscle fibers are completely lost. Because of the handicap of the upper limb, only the upper muscles can be spared in shoulder surgery, which involves releasing the paralyzed muscles from the PNS block. Bo
