Contractures
Historical meaning of the term In 1979, a report was published in the press about the classification of contractures of the upper limb that he developed and a new term “contracture” was proposed. However, the term “contracture” did not become generally accepted, which led to the widespread use of synonyms “supination”, “pronation”, “flexion”, “hyperextension”, “spontaneous supinator cycle”, etc. G. I. Turner in the 20s reported contracture of the interphalangeal joints. In Soviet literature, contracture was first called a small traction of one tendon or nerve fiber in a paralyzed limb. In the 40s, the term “paralytic contracture” was first used in Russian literature.
