Gigantoma Tendons

Gigantoma of the tendon is a rare disease that occurs in people of all ages, but most often occurs between the ages of 20 and 50 years.

Characteristic signs of tendon gigantoma are swelling in the hand area and flexion of the fingers in the middle and ring fingers, as well as possible damage to other joints. This causes pain and limited mobility of the fingers. Treatment of giant tendons is carried out surgically, and the sooner the operation is performed, the higher the chances of a full recovery and restoration of hand function. The operation consists of removing part of the tendons that have undergone fibrosis (fibrosis is the growth of scar tissue that has no function). Surgical treatment is more effective in cases where fibroblastic changes are at the beginning of the process. In advanced cases, the effectiveness of the operation decreases. Tendon gigantoma is a disease that can lead to impaired motor function of the hand, so timely consultation with a doctor and surgical intervention are recommended.
