Gistak: instructions for use and features of the medicine

Gistak is a drug that belongs to the group of H2-histamine receptor blockers and similar drugs. The active ingredient of the drug is ranitidine. Gistak is available in various dosage forms: tablets 150 mg and 300 mg, solution for injection, effervescent soluble tablets 150 mg, film-coated tablets 150 mg, 300 mg and 75 mg.

The producers of Gistac are the Indian pharmaceutical companies Ranbaxy Laboratories and Sotex PharmFirma/Ranbaxy. The international name of the drug is Ranitidine. Gistak is used to treat gastric and duodenal ulcers, NSAID gastropathy, postoperative ulcers, reflux esophagitis, Zollinger-Ellison syndrome, chronic dyspepsia with epigastric and chest pain. Gistak is also used to prevent stress ulcers, recurrent bleeding, and Mendelssohn's syndrome.

But, like any other medicine, Gistak has contraindications and side effects. The medicine should not be used in case of hypersensitivity, cirrhosis of the liver with a history of portosystemic encephalopathy, impaired liver and kidney function, pregnancy, lactation, as well as in children under 14 years of age.

When using Gistak, side effects may occur, such as headache, dizziness, vertigo, drowsiness, anxiety, agitation, depression, hallucinations, reversible blurred vision, involuntary movements, arrhythmias (tachycardia, bradycardia, asystole, AV block, extrasystole), constipation or diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, pancreatitis, hepatocellular, cholestatic or mixed hepatitis with or without jaundice, arthralgia and myalgia, increased creatinine in the blood, leukopenia, granulocytopenia, thrombocytopenia, agranulocytosis, pancytopenia, bone marrow hypoplasia and aplastic anemia, immune hemolytic anemia, gynecomastia, impotence, decreased libido, alopecia, rash, erythema multiforme, angioedema, anaphylaxis.

It is important to consider that Gistak can interact with other drugs, changing them, enhancing their effect, or vice versa, reducing its effectiveness. Therefore, before starting to take Gistac, you should consult with your doctor, who will analyze possible interactions with other medications that you are currently taking.

The dosage and duration of taking Gistac depend on the nature of the disease, the severity of symptoms, the age and condition of the patient. It is usually recommended to take 150mg tablets twice daily or 300mg tablets once daily. For the treatment of gastric and duodenal ulcers, it is recommended to take the medicine for 4-8 weeks. To prevent relapses of peptic ulcers - 150 mg once a day at night.
