A Goryaev grid is a special device used to count blood cells or other biological materials such as bone marrow, organs, etc. It can be used to determine the content of different types of cells in certain samples to diagnose diseases and determine possible treatment options.
The invention of the Goryaev grid dates back to 1927, when the Soviet hematologist Nikolai Kapitonovich Goryaev proposed this method for accurate quantitative assessment of hematological parameters in humans. He developed an analysis technique using a grid attached to an optical microscope and showed that this method produced results much more accurate than conventional cell counting methods.
