Grippostad Rino: an effective remedy for the treatment of a runny nose and preparation for the diagnosis of nasal passages
Grippostad Rino is a nasal medication produced by the German pharmaceutical company Stada Arzneimittel AG. The active substance of the drug is xylometazoline, which is a stimulator of alpha and beta adrenergic receptors. Grippostad Rino is available as a nasal spray (0.1%) and nasal drops for adults (0.1%) and children (0.05%).
Grippostad Rino is used for acute allergic rhinitis, hay fever, sinusitis, otitis media to reduce swelling of the nasopharyngeal mucosa, as well as to prepare the patient for diagnostic procedures in the nasal passages. However, the drug has a number of contraindications, including hypersensitivity to the components of the drug, arterial hypertension, tachycardia, severe atherosclerosis, glaucoma, atrophic rhinitis, hyperthyroidism, pregnancy and breastfeeding.
With frequent or prolonged use, Grippostad Rino can cause mucosal irritation, burning, tingling, sneezing, dryness and hypersecretion. Rarely, swelling of the nasal mucosa, palpitations, heart rhythm disturbances, increased blood pressure, headache, vomiting, sleep disturbance, and visual disturbances may occur. With prolonged use of high doses, depression may develop.
Grippostad Rino is incompatible with MAO inhibitors and tricyclic antidepressants. In case of overdose, side effects may increase; treatment is carried out symptomatically.
It is important to remember that Grippostad Rino aerosol can be used in children under 3 years of age, and nasal drops with an active substance concentration of 1 mg/ml for children under 2 years of age should only be prescribed by a doctor. The drug should not be used for a long time (for example, with chronic rhinitis). For colds, when crusts form in the nose, it is preferable to prescribe the drug in the form of a gel.
