Habitus

Habitus is a concept introduced by the French sociologist Pierre Bourdieu, meaning a general mode of movement and a general body image for certain relationships and activities, a specific style of behavior and a way of addressing, especially in the daily life of people in a particular society or community. The study of habitus allows us to understand the characteristics of social interaction associated with specific positions and roles in various cultural systems.

The concept of “habitus” means something that exists in a social form, “inscribed” in the sociocultural context. Habitat is a way of carrying out activities that is specific to this form of activity. The concept of “habitus” is close in meaning (but not in meaning) to the concept of “lifestyle.” Housing, food, clothing, transport, frequency of wardrobe changes, etc. - everything forms the model by which people live in certain sociocultural environments. Habitats can be compared with each other, since the culture in which they are formed is the same.
