Hammer Toe

Hammer Toe is a deformity of the toe (most often the second) caused by fixation of its flexion in the metatarsophalangeal joint. As a result of this deformation, the finger often bends at the joint, forming an angle; this can cause a person great pain.

If the pain does not go away after traction of the finger using a special strap or wearing special orthopedic shoes, then it may be necessary to perform arthrodesis (surgical fixation of the joint) of the diseased joint. This eliminates painful bending and restores the normal shape of the finger.

The main causes of hammertoe deformity are wearing high-heeled shoes, flat feet, rheumatoid arthritis and other diseases. For prevention, it is important to wear comfortable shoes without heels and, if necessary, use individual insoles. If you experience pain or deformation of your fingers, you should consult a doctor for timely treatment.

Hammer toe is one of the most common foot deformities that can cause significant pain. Some people may notice that their second toe has become too curved toward the big toe. This occurs due to the fixation of the flexion of the finger at the metatarsophalangeal joint.

The toe can become hammertoe due to both congenital and acquired reasons. Acquired deformity can develop due to many factors, including poor diet, pregnancy, excess weight, weak ankle ligaments, wearing ill-fitting shoes and flat feet.
