Hemospermia False

False hemospermia (h. spuria) is a condition in which the sperm acquires a reddish tint due to the admixture of blood. However, true bleeding does not occur.

Causes of false hemospermia:

  1. Taking certain medications and supplements that color sperm (such as iron salts).

  2. Inflammatory diseases of the prostate gland and seminal vesicles.

  3. Infections of the genitourinary system.

  4. Injuries and damage to the penis, scrotum, rectum.

  5. Blood clotting disorders.

Diagnosis of false hemospermia includes medical history, semen and blood analysis, ultrasound of the scrotum, and cystoscopy.

Treatment is aimed at eliminating the underlying cause. For inflammatory diseases, antibiotics, anti-inflammatory and painkillers are prescribed.

With proper treatment, the prognosis is favorable and the condition is completely reversible. However, regular monitoring is necessary to exclude relapses and complications.
