Ichthyosis Pityriasiformis

**Ichthyosis** is a group of genetic disorders of the skin. Ichthyosis affects the epidermis, the top layer of skin. The functioning of the cells responsible for the production and distribution of keratin - the protein that mainly makes up the stratum corneum of our skin - is disrupted, as well as for the distribution of melanin - the skin pigment, which also performs a protective function against ultraviolet rays, which helps reduce sunburn.

**With ichthyosis** due to a pathological disruption of the above processes, a significant thickening of the epidermis and a decrease in its elasticity occurs.

There are several forms of ichthyosis.
