Ixel: Antidepressant from France

Ixel is one of the antidepressants produced in France. It belongs to the pharmaceutical group of antidepressants of various groups and is produced by Pierre Fabre Medicine Production. The active substance of the drug is Milnacipran.

Ixel is available in two dosage forms: capsules containing 25 mg and 50 mg Milnacipran. The drug is used to treat depressive conditions in patients.

Like any medicine, Ixel has contraindications. It is not recommended in patients with hypersensitivity to Milnacipran, as well as in the presence of benign prostatic hyperplasia. Taking Ixel simultaneously with monoamine oxidase inhibitors, selective neuronal reuptake inhibitors of serotonin, adrenaline, norepinephrine, clonidine, digoxin, moclobemide, toloxatone is also contraindicated. The drug is not recommended during pregnancy, breastfeeding and for children and adolescents under 15 years of age.

Some side effects may occur when using Ixel, including dizziness, sweating, flushing, tremors, palpitations, dry mouth, nausea, dyspepsia, dysuria, and increased transaminases.

It is necessary to be attentive to the interactions of Ixel with other drugs. It is incompatible with monoamine oxidase inhibitors and serotonergic drugs. Ixel may alter blood lithium levels and inhibit the hypotensive effect of clonidine. Taking epinephrine and norepinephrine together with Ixel can cause hypertensive crisis and arrhythmias. Digoxin, in turn, can increase hemodynamic disorders when using Ixel.

An overdose of Ixel is unlikely, and there are no specific antidotes. In case of overdose, symptomatic treatment is carried out.

When prescribing Ixel to patients with renal failure, a dose reduction is recommended depending on creatinine clearance. It is also important to maintain a two-week interval between doses of monoamine oxidase inhibitors and Ixel. Alcohol consumption is not recommended during therapy. It should be borne in mind that at the beginning of treatment with Ixel, an increase in anxiety is possible. Particular caution should be exercised when using Ixel in patients with coronary heart disease, arterial hypertension, tachyarrhythmia, glaucoma and epilepsy.
