Iliofemoral ligament

The iliofemoral ligament is a strong ligament that connects the ilium to the femur, ensuring their stable connection. This helps provide balance of motion and support to the hip joint capsule. The ligament is about 6 cm long and consists of connective tissue with a large number of collagen and elastin fibers. It runs anteriorly across the surface of the hip bone and is attached to its medial part.

The function of the iliofemoral ligament is also important for maintaining stability of movement in the hip joint, as well as reducing tension and stability while sitting or walking. When a ligament is damaged, especially in the context of injury and sports, the area can be very susceptible to pain, inflammation and other negative consequences.
