Interstitial-Cell-Stimulating Hormone is another name for luteinizing hormone.
Luteinizing hormone is produced by gonadotrophocytes of the anterior pituitary gland. It stimulates the maturation of follicles in the ovaries in women and also stimulates the production of estrogen. In men, this hormone stimulates the Leydig cells in the testicles to produce testosterone.
Thus, interstitial cell stimulating hormone is responsible for the maturation of germ cells and the production of sex hormones. It is an important regulator of the reproductive system in both men and women.
