Ipomoea Orizabenica, or Scammonia mexicanis, is a climbing plant of the Convolvulaceae family. Its pharmaceutical name is scammonia root (Scammoniae radix).
The plant has large, heart-shaped, arrow-shaped leaves and bright yellow, yellowish-white or yellowish-green flowers. The homeland of this species is Mexico.
Scammonia root contains resins that have a strong laxative effect. Previously, the root was widely used in medicine as a laxative.
However, it should be remembered that all parts of this plant are poisonous and require careful use. Failure to comply with the dosage and rules of administration can lead to serious consequences.
