Orunit: an antifungal agent based on itraconazole

Orunit (itraconazole) is an antifungal agent that has been successfully used to treat mycoses of various localizations. The drug is produced in Russia by the Obolenskoye Pharmaceutical Enterprise and Obolenskoye Pharmaceutical Enterprise/Makiz-Pharma.

The main active ingredient of Orunit is itraconazole, which belongs to imidazole and triazole derivatives. It has a wide spectrum of action and acts on dermatophytes, yeasts and molds that cause mycoses of the skin, oral cavity and eyes, systemic tropical mycoses, vulvovaginal candidiasis and onychomycosis.

Orunit is available in the form of 100 mg capsules, which should be taken orally. The dosage and duration of treatment depend on the severity of the disease and are prescribed individually by the doctor.

Despite the effectiveness of Orunit, its use may be accompanied by side effects. These include dyspepsia, abdominal pain, constipation, hepatitis, increased appetite, headache, dizziness, peripheral neuropathies, dysmenorrhea, increased levels of transaminases in the blood plasma, itching, thrombocytopenia, leukopenia, prolongation of bleeding time, edema, hypokalemia, weight gain , hyperammonemia, alopecia, angioedema, urticaria, itching.

It is also necessary to take into account the possibility of interaction of Orunit with other drugs. Incompatible with terfenadine, astemizole, lovastatin, oral forms of midazolam and triazolam. Strengthens and/or prolongs the effect of oral anticoagulants, cyclosporine A, digoxin, methylprednisolone, warfarin, vincristine, calcium channel blockers. Rifampicin and phenytoin reduce the bioavailability of itraconazole, antacids - absorption (the interval separating their administration should be at least 2 hours).

Taking Orunit may also be contraindicated in case of hypersensitivity to the components of the drug, pregnancy and lactation.

It is important to note that in patients with liver cirrhosis and/or renal impairment, itraconazole plasma concentrations should be monitored and the dose adjusted if necessary. Women of childbearing age should always use reliable methods of contraception during treatment.
