Itsenko-Cushing's disease

Cushing's disease is a disease characterized by damage to the pituitary gland and hypothalamus, which leads to increased production of adrenal hormones (cortisol).

The cause of the disease is a dysregulation of adrenal function due to excessive production of the hormone corticotropin by the brain. The main cause is pituitary adenoma. Traumatic brain injuries, encephalitis and arachnoiditis also contribute to the development of the disease. More often, the disease affects women aged 20 to 50 years.

Symptoms of Itsenko-Cushing's disease:

  1. Weight gain, weakness, bone pain, decreased sex drive
  2. Deposition of fatty tissue on the face ("moon face"), abdomen, thighs and buttocks
  3. Reddish-pink stretch marks (striae) on the skin
  4. Redness and acne on the skin, excess growth of facial hair in women
  5. Decreased muscle strength and secondary sexual characteristics in men
  6. Increased blood pressure to dangerous levels
  7. Increased heart size
  8. Chronic gastritis, stomach ulcer
  9. Increased level of corticotropin in the blood, tumor of the pituitary gland according to tomography

The danger of the disease is that 50% of patients die from inflammatory and infectious diseases.

Treatment includes:

  1. Irradiation of the hypothalamic-pituitary region
  2. Surgical removal of pituitary tumor, removal of adrenal glands
  3. Drug therapy with drugs that suppress the synthesis of corticosteroids (chloditan, aminogluteptide) in combination with other methods.

Thus, Itsenko-Cushing's disease is a serious disease that requires complex treatment and regular medical supervision. Timely diagnosis and adequate therapy can significantly improve the prognosis for patients.
