Lower flexure of the duodenum

The lower bend of the duodenum (lat. flexura duodeni inferior, flexura duodeni caudalis) is one of the anatomical sections of the duodenum.

The duodenum starts from the pylorus of the stomach, descends along the right side wall of the abdominal cavity, then makes a sharp turn in the lumbar spine. This bend is called the inferior flexure of the duodenum.

After the lower bend, the duodenum rises upward and forward. Thus, the inferior flexure is the site of an abrupt change in the direction of the intestine. It is fixed by a peritoneal fold to the lumbar spine.

The bend provides mobility and protects the intestine from excessive stretching when filling. Knowledge of the topography of the lower bend is important in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the duodenum.

The duodenal flexure is an important part of the human digestive tract that connects the stomach and duodenum. The inferior flexure of the duodenum (or flexure of the duodenum) differs from the superior flexure of the duodenum because it is directed to the lower side, and not to the upper. The inferior flexure is a critical site because this is where the transition from the duodenum to the small intestine occurs. Below is an article about the duodenal flexure, its functions and clinical significance.

Flexure of the Duodenum: Meaning and Functions The inferior flexure of the duodenum, called the flexure of the duodenum, provides stability to the junction from the duodenum to the small intestine, preventing stretching and torsion at this location. This is important because the small intestine is a very fragile part of the digestive system and can be susceptible to various types of damage or dysmotility due to overuse or poor nutrition. In addition, the flexure of the duodenum plays an important role in regulating the movement of food through the intestines and prevents the release of gases or contents from the intestines. Clinical significance of the duodenal flexure Impairment of the inferior duodenal flexure can lead to various diseases and ailments. One of these disorders is the occurrence of diarrhea or constipation, which may indicate impaired patency or fine motor skills.
