Potassium iodide is a pharmaceutical preparation containing iodine and is widely used for the prevention and treatment of diseases associated with iodine deficiency in the body. The drug Potassium iodide is available in the form of an oral solution containing the active substance - Potassium iodide. It is produced at the Krasnodar Pharmaceutical Factory in Russia and its use is regulated by medical guidelines.

The main indications for the use of Potassium iodide are the prevention of diseases associated with iodine deficiency in the environment, especially in children, adolescents, pregnant and lactating women. It is also used to treat diffuse nontoxic and euthyroid goiter caused by iodine deficiency in children, adolescents and adults.

However, there are several contraindications to the use of Potassium iodide. It is not recommended for hyperthyroidism, hypersensitivity to iodine, toxic thyroid adenoma and nodular goiter. Its use should also be avoided in cases of Dühring's dermatitis herpetiformis.

Side effects from the use of Potassium iodide are usually rare and insignificant. In some cases, “iodism” may occur, manifested by a metallic taste in the mouth, swelling and inflammation of the mucous membranes, as well as other symptoms. In extremely rare cases, angioedema and exfoliative dermatitis may occur. If the recommended dose of the drug is exceeded, hyperthyroidism may develop.
