Karsil: an effective hepatoprotective drug

Karsil, also known by the international name silibinin, is one of the leading hepatoprotective agents produced in Bulgaria. This drug is widely used to treat various liver diseases and lipid metabolism disorders.

Karsil is produced by several companies in Bulgaria, including Bulgarian Rose, Sevtopolis, Sopharma JSC and Farmakhim. It is available in several dosage forms, including 35 mg tablets, 70 mg and 100 mg capsules, and 1% syrup.

The active substance in Karsil is silibinin. This substance has pronounced hepatoprotective properties and helps restore and protect the liver. Karsil is indicated in cases of toxic liver damage caused by alcoholism, intoxication with halogenated hydrocarbons, heavy metal compounds and drug-induced liver damage. It is also used in complex therapy of chronic hepatitis, liver cirrhosis and lipid metabolism disorders.

Karsil has some contraindications. It is not recommended in case of hypersensitivity to the drug. When using Karsil, some side effects may occur, such as diarrhea and allergic reactions. There are no known interactions with other medications, so caution should be exercised when used concomitantly with other medications.

There is no information about an overdose of Karsil, however, if any unwanted symptoms occur, you should immediately seek medical help.

A special note is that Karsil oral solution can be prescribed to patients with diabetes mellitus, since it does not contain glucose.
