Cliacyl: description, application and features of use

Cliacyl (international name - phenoxymethylpenicillin) is an antibiotic of the penicillin group, produced by Hoechst AG in Turkey and Germany. It is widely used for the treatment of infections of the upper and lower respiratory tract, ENT organs, skin and soft tissues, oral cavity, as well as for the prevention of bacterial infections after surgery.

Cliacyl is available in several dosage forms, including film tablets, powder for syrup, and powder for suspension 300,000 IU. The active substance is phenoxymethylpenicillin.

Like other antibiotics, Kliacyl has a number of contraindications and side effects. It is not recommended for use by people who have hypersensitivity to other penicillins, cephalosporins or carbapenems, as well as those who have the acute stage of severe pneumonia, empyema, pericarditis, arthritis or gastrointestinal diseases accompanied by vomiting and diarrhea.

When using Kliacyl, the following side effects may occur: anorexia, nausea, vomiting, flatulence, diarrhea, dry mouth, taste disturbance, glossitis, stomatitis, vesicular cheilitis, interstitial nephritis, vasculitis, granulocytopenia, leukopenia, agranulocytosis, thrombocytopenia, eosinophilia, hemolytic anemia, pancytopenia, superinfection, pseudomembranous colitis, allergic phenomena such as itching, urticaria, exanthema, bronchospasm, serum sickness, angioedema and anaphylactic shock.

The use of Kliacyl may interact with other medicines. Bacteriostatic chemotherapeutic agents can reduce its effectiveness, NSAIDs reduce excretion, allopurinol increases the risk of allergic reactions, and antacids, glucosamine, laxatives and aminoglycosides slow down and reduce its absorption, and ascorbic acid increases it.

Cliacil can be used during pregnancy only if there are clear indications, when the expected benefit to the mother outweighs the potential risk to the fetus.
