Co-trimoxazole: use, contraindications, side effects

Co-trimoxazole is a combined antimicrobial drug consisting of two active components - sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim. The drug should not be used in case of hypersensitivity to sulfonamides or trimethoprim, liver or kidney failure, B12-deficiency anemia, agranulocytosis, leukopenia, glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency, pregnancy, breastfeeding and childhood (up to 2 months for oral administration and up to 6 years for parenteral administration).

Side effects may include dyspepsia, nausea, vomiting, anorexia, increased transaminases, pseudomembranous enterocolitis, pancreatitis, glossitis and others. If any side effects occur, you should consult a doctor immediately.
